Start Walking Now

The current recommended amount of steps per day for fitness, heart health and weight control is 10,000.  Though walking alone without changing your diet has not proven to be effective in weight loss, walking should be a part of your maintenance plan once you have dropped a few pounds.

If you don't have a pedometer that tracks the number of steps you take, you probably have no idea how many steps you take in a day.  2,000 steps = approximately 1 mile, so 10,000 steps = approximately 5 miles.

A new study from Boston University suggest that you need only 6,000 steps a day to stay fit and it is the best and easiest way to avoid or reduce knee pain due to arthritis.

Currently, more and more people are buying pedometers or fit bands.  I think they both provide good incentive and feedback to get you up and moving more than you are doing now.  Many of you will be surprised that you are not close to 10,000 let alone 6,000 steps per day.  Come on now- get up out of that chair and start walking!
