An article in the Life & Style section of the August 31, 2015 Journal News, titled “Exercise Together- 5 Ideas to Get Your Kids Moving,” presented some depressing information:

-More than 31% of American kids age 10-17 are obese.

-In adults, obesity can lead to problems such as type 2 diabetes, arthritis and back pain.

-Obesity often follows children into adulthood.

There is no one answer to this obesity problem but it is widely accepted that both exercise and diet education is important. It seems that American children's calorie consumption is decreasing but the amount of physical activity hasn't changed much in the last few years.
