Staying Fit and Healthy With Chiropractic Care

Exercise doesn’t have to mean grueling workouts leaving you so sore you can barely get out of bed the next day. In fact, the Department of Health and Human Services suggests adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity and two sessions of muscle strengthening activity each week. Kids ages 6-17 should get 60 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per day and three muscle-strengthening sessions. These workouts can be done in ways you wouldn’t even imagine such as, taking the stairs vs elevator, parking slightly further away so you have a longer walk to your car, and shoveling or gardening. Simple activities can simply be modified to count as ways to get some exercise in.

One reason many adults skip exercise is because of the increasing pain they develop from ageing. Back and neck pain is common amongst adults, whether it’s from lifting children, sitting at a computer all day or just getting older. According to the American Chiropractic Association, “31 million Americans experience lower back pain at any given time and worldwide, back pain is the single leading cause of disability, preventing many people from engaging in work as well as other everyday activities.” Seeking chiropractic care will help alleviate and prevent pain, allowing adults to get the necessary exercise they need in order to stay healthy. Less than a third of Americans, and only one in five teenagers, meet the standard exercise guidelines, and chronic pain can contribute as a major reason that many people don’t exercise as much as they should.

The Department of Health and Human Services also emphasizes decreasing sitting time, whether it’s at work or in school. It’s encouraged that people take time to stand, walk and stretch, giving their bodies a chance to move throughout the day. Frequent movement, stretching and chiropractic care, can alleviate issues and fix posture problems that are developed from long-term sitting.

If you want to start exercising but have no idea how to, seeking professional help from a chiropractor is a good idea since they can offer tips on how to keep moving. Chiropractors can provide lists of exercises to help strengthen your back, neck and core - all helping to limit pain and keep you from remaining too stationary throughout the day.

A pain free life will allow you to exercise more, keeping you healthy both physically and mentally. New policies are being adopted in schools to keep kids active such as offering physical education, after-school sports and public access to school facilities. Schools are expanding intramural sports, and encouraging participation from kids to introduce the importance of exercise at a young age. While chiropractic care is beneficial for both kids and adults, adults must motivate themselves to get in as much physical activity as possible, and chiropractic care can be a great way to start. Managing pain and learning simple techniques to keep your body stimulated and active throughout the day is one major way to stay healthy and meet the Department of Health exercise guidelines.
